Trail RCMP say illicit drug use increasing at Smokies games

Trail RCMP have issued a notice about illicit drug use at Trail Smoke Eater games. They say there’s been an increase in usage in the public washrooms. Sergeant Mike Wicentowich says they’re asking for the public’s assistance with reporting. “There’s a public safety concern as some residual powder was found on one of the toilet paper dispensers, so we’re asking the public and staff to report any such incidents to game security and alternatively RCMP directly.”

If you notice a white powder residue on a surface or drug use paraphernalia, you’re asked not touch it and report it immediately to arena staff or Selkirk Security.

Trail RCMP says they’ve made recommendations to the Trail Recreational Department that includes the removal of flat surfaces, the replacement of paper dispensers and controlling access to the accessible washroom.

It’s added that using illicit drugs can result in being arrested and charged by the RCMP for possessing a controlled substance under Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act by the RCMP. A ban from attending Smoke Eaters hockey games in the arena for performing an illegal activity on the premises will also likely occur.
