Maria McFaddin is running for Castlegar City Council this fall. She was born and raised in Castlegar, having left for a time, but returned to raise her family. Currently, her and her husband are pastors and have been involved with many different aspects of the community.
“I’ve owned a business in town for eight years in two different malls, we have been raising our family here. Been a part of most of our social sector. Anywhere from my husband is on the fire hall to we worked with at risk teens for about ten years.” McFaddin feels these experiences have provided her with a unique perspective and understanding of the community.
She says she doesn’t have a specific agenda she wants to bring as a councillor, but feels there’s a better way she can work on behalf of citizens.
“I think there’s enough agendas on the table right now, I think there’s enough vision on the table right now. Really, I see my role as okay, Castlegar, which vision, which agenda are you behind and I think my skill set comes in and says let’s come up with a plan to actually make this happen.”
She feels right now there’s a majority of residents within Castlegar who aren’t being heard as they’re busy with their families and careers. She wants to help bridge that gap.
