Online rec survey open to Rossland residents

The City of Rossland is currently looking for input on recreation services in the community. The City says a number of key assets are aging and are in need of major capital investment. For example, the pool is estimated to cost $2-million in the next five years which accounts to a four per cent tax increase.

Mayor Kathy Moore says they want to hear from residents about how to move forward. “Our facilities, they’re expensive, they’re old, they need work, they need investment, which is fine, if that’s what the community wants. They just need to realize there’s a cost to that, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Or has the direction changed? Does the majority of the community want us to make a deal with Trail and use their recreation facilities?”

The City of Rossland has not paid annually into the Trail Residency Program which means Rossland residents pay double the entry fees at Trail’s facilities. The last discussion took place in 2015 with the City of Trail requesting $100,00 annually from Rossland.

Mayor Moore says they hosted a public engagement drop-in event at the Minor’s Hall last week which had a good turn out. Residents can also fill out the online survey.
