Update: Castlegar sculpture stolen and then returned

A sculpture stolen near Castlegar’s public library was returned. Executive Direction of the Castlegar Sculpture Walk, Joy Barrett, was very happy to learn of the turn of events this morning.

“We went to the RCMP and there was a big social media post that was shared over 100 times by the residents of Casltegar and the good news is I got a call and the sheep had returned to his home.”

Barett says it’s a bronze sculpture and would be difficult to move as it was fastened down very well. She says the RCMP are now looking into the details.

Some unfortunate news as one of Castlegar’s sculptures was stolen. “Desert Big Horn” by artist Pokey Park was noticed missing from its location on the amphitheatre wall next to the Castlegar & District Public Library and reported to RCMP on Tuesday, September 18. Executive Director of the Castlegar Sculpture Walk Joy Barett say the value is $16,826.

RCMP will be checking security footage and are accepting any information from the public. Barett says it’s the first theft that Sculpture Walk has had occur.
