MLA Conroy says questions continue over acid spills

Kootenay West MLA Katrine Conroy has shared her thoughts on two acid spills in Trail earlier this year.  She says she learned about them after the fact by word of mouth like many others. “That was the concern that we were hearing from people throughout the area, just not sure if they’d been to Trail that day, if their vehicles had been affected. You know, I had no idea my vehicle was affected. It was very disconcerting not to get the information right away.”

Her staff have been gathering information on the incidents, which Conroy says involves three private companies, four government agencies, and at last count, over 3,000 ICBC claims. She says they’ve been working to try and fill any gaps in communication. “Talking to people about what’s working and what’s not and what can we do differently next time and definitely the one thing that kept coming out is the lack of information that should have come out right away.”

She adds not all answers that are needed may come forward right away as a number of lawyers have put limits on what their clients are allowed to share which has made it a challenge to verify information. She recognizes the hard work ICBC has done to process claims and get vehicles checked.

Conroy has also created an Information page for constituents.
