Castlegar Chamber wins community engagement award

Another big award for the Castlegar and District Chamber of Commerce. They were recently won the BC Provincial Chamber of Commerce Executives Community Engagement Award for 201 to 500 members at the BC Chamber Executives Conference.

Castlegar Chamber Executive Director Tammy Verigin-Burk lists some of the criteria needed to win. “It is somebody who has gone over, basically, the call of duty to work with their chamber members as well as to do things amongst your community, so it’s all well rounded.”

Verigin-Burk feels that they’ve made an effort to work proactively. “If there is community issues or if there’s somewhere that we need to be expelling our energy because of a need that’s in our community that will enhance business and enhance our community livelihood,  it’s really really important that we’re available and we’re putting these things together.”

The Castlegar Chamber also won the Chamber of the Year Award earlier this summer. Verigin-Burk says it’s been an exciting year. “This is the first time that the Castlegar Chamber has won either of those awards. I feel that we’ve really put a huge effort into working hard to be there for our members in this community and it just feels really really good that we’ve been recognized for that.”

The Chamber is also hosting their second annual Storefront of Opportunities event coming up on October 4 for new and expanding businesses. This event takes you on a tour of available commercial space in Castlegar & District and is by a wine and cheese networking event. You’re asked to RSVP before October 2 to Mark Laver, Economic Development Manager at 250-304-8231 or [email protected].
