Races for mayor in Silverton and New Denver but not Slocan

Incumbent Jason Clarke will face a challenger for mayor of Silverton in the Oct. 20 municipal elections.

Don Broughton is also seeking the job.

Incumbents Carol Bell, Leah Main, and Arlene Yofonoff are all running again, along with newcomers Kerry Gordon and Tanya Gordon.

In Slocan, incumbent Jessica Lunn has been re-elected by acclamation. But there are five candidates for four council seats: incumbents Madeleine Perriere, Burly Van Bynen, and Joel Pelletier plus newcomers Ezra Buller and Denise Dufault.

In New Denver, Leonard Casley will run against Ann Bunka for mayor. Casley is the village’s fire chief. Bunka has been mayor for the last seven years.

There will also be a race for council. Although none of the incumbents are seeking re-election, those running include Gary Wright, who served as mayor for 22 years before retiring in 2011. The others are John Fyke, Vern Gustafson, June McMillan, Colin Moss, and Gerald Wagner.

Four council seats are available in all three municipalities.
