Fire behind Trail hospital listed as under control

An investigation is underway into the wildfire behind the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail. Carlee Cashman, Fire Information Officer with the Southeast Fire Centre says it’s suspected human caused. The good news is, it’s been listed as under control. “That the fire has received sufficient suppression action to ensure that no futher spread of the fire will occur. It was estimated to be 1.6 hectares in size.”

Cashman says BC Wildfire Service is expecting they will complete their action on the fire today and turn it completely over to Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue.

An initial attack crew was on scene this morning. Information Officer for the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, Frances Maika, says the fire behaviour was fairly calm and there was no longer a threat to the public.

The fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon roughly 300 to 400 metres behind the hospital and JL Crowe High School.
