Crews on are the scene of a wildfire about one hectare in size behind the Trail hospital.

We spoke with the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary’s Information Officer Frances Maika.

Maika says the trails around the hospital in the Muriel Heights area are closed and only emergency traffic is being allowed up to the hospital on the main road.

Karl Hart with Interior Health says the hospital itself isn’t impacted, just access to the facility.

He says anyone with less urgent needs is asked to go to Castlegar.

We’ll have more information as updates become available.
