Smokies kick off the regular season against the Warriors

The Trail Smoke Eaters kick off their regular season tonight. Head Coach Jeff Tambellini says the boys have been looking good in training camp and the exhibition games so far. “Our guys played really well. So, we saw over the four games we liked what our group brought, produced some new concepts and coming out of them as a whole we liked what we had, but looking forward to starting the real stuff now.”

New players this year include Kent Johnson, Jeremy Smith, Hayden Rowan, and Diarmad Dimurro. Braeden Tuck was named captain while Kyle Chernenkoff and Hayden Rowan will serve as assistant captains.

Tambellini says another Assistant Coach, Dustin Korlak, was added to the staff in the last couple weeks “We think Dustin really rounds out our coaching staff and fills all the holes. He’s a guy who played defense for 12, coached defense. So he’s going to help Jessie Leung run the back end for us. We’re trying to provide every one of our players with all the resources possible, to develop here, have a chance to have a successful years and then move on to the NCAA.”

The Smokies face the West Kelowna Warriors tonight.  Puck drop is 7:00pm.
