City of Trail pulls out of acid spill debriefing

The City of Trail has decided it will not participate in a meeting on Friday, September 7, regarding the two sulphuric acid spills in the community. The meeting was arranged by International Raw Materials (IRM) with the original intent to have a formal debriefing with multiple parties on ensuring that incidents of this nature don’t happen again. According to the City of Trail this outcome can no longer be achieved as several parties are unable or willing to attend the meeting.

There may be a future time and date for the meeting, however, the City says at this point, with various legal concerns now coming forward, until these issues are resolved, the parties directly involved are proceeding with caution.

The City says it was very disappointed with the lack of information made available following the incidents. Upon the City’s request, IRM and Teck have now issued a joint public information piece on both the acid spills. To view it, click here.

The City says it’s also proceeding with a number of claims for its fleet vehicles that may have passed through the spills and continues to inspect its surface and underground infrastructure.
