RDCK provides wildfire update on Syringa Creek

The Regional District of Central Kootenay provided an update on the wildfire situation yesterday. They say, in general, the cooler nights and shorter days have had a positive impact, however, we’re not out of the woods yet.

Over the long weekend, significant winds combined with dry conditions increased fire activity in the southern portion of the region. The forecast calls for continued dry conditions with increased temperatures later in the week, although with less wind.

For the Syringa Creek wildfire specifically, the BC Wildfire Service says crews have done great work with aircraft supporting when visibility allows, however, crews and equipment had to be relocated into safer terrain when the winds picked up.

The south guard is being worked on and crews are progressing along the east and west flank of the fire.

It’s estimated at 1,766 hectares in size with 47 firefighters battling the blaze.
