Very dry month of August

A total of 2.8 millimetres of rain fell last month which is nine per cent of normal. That according to the Southeast Fire Centre’s weather forecaster Ron Lakeman. He says August of 1967 still stands as the driest on record.

For the months of July and August combined, a total of 11.0 millimeters was recorded. Last year, that was 9.8 millimetres.

Lakeman reports the hottest day of the month was the ninth, when it got up to 39.8 degrees which set a new maximum temperature record for that day. The mean monthly temperature for August was 0.4 of a degree warmer than normal.
