UPDATED:Nelson lakeside tree limb crashes onto park

Crews have had to cut down one of the oldest trees of its kind in Nelson.

A massive limb from a silver maple at Lakeside Park came crashing down at around 5-30 Thursday morning.

Karen MacDonald with public works says this could have been a disaster had it happened during a busier time of the day or just a few days ago.


MacDonald says there was no wind but the tree had lots of internal rot – which was confirmed when it was cut down.

It was on their watch list and another major limb snapped off a few years ago.
