The Regional District of Central Kootenay has downgraded an evacuation order to an alert near the Bulldog Mountain wildfire. The area included is from the community of Brooklyn and all properties to the south-east to Shields Point. This reduction to an alert means residents can return to their properties but must be prepared to leave should conditions change.
An evacuation order remains in effect for the area north-west of Brooklyn, including Renata. You can visit the RDCK’s website for more information on current alerts and orders.
The Bulldog Mountain wildfire was over 1,500 hectares as of this afternoon, according to the BC Wildfire Service. Resources include 27 firefighters, four helicopters and four pieces of heavy equipment.
Ashley Davidoff with the Southeast Fire Centre also has some good news regarding the China Creek Wildfire west of Genelle. “The status of the China Creek wildfire is now under control. There are crews on site today including about 21 personnel; they are mopping up.”
