Castlegar awaits union labour action

Castlegar’s top administrator says now that strike notice has been served unionized employees have “re-set the counter to zero.”

CAO John Malcolm was responding when asked if there was any chance of a mediated contract settlement.

He says the union has previously asked the mediator to check out of talks.


The city has offered an average 1.4% wage increase .

The union wants 2% and claims Malcolm himself has been enjoying a 5% annual wage hike.


The city’s 34 CUPE workers are in a legal position to go on strike Monday but have suggested they’ll decide what action to take later in the day.
