Slocan Park wildfire slows but crews in for long haul

It looks like crews are in for the long haul in tackling the Slocan Park wildfire.

Information Officer Noelle Kekula says there’s still no containment on the 120-hectare blaze and the painstaking process of building helicopter landing areas continues.

Not until the heli-pads are in will crews be able to get hose lines in.

The fire behavior has improved slightly from a rank 3 to a rank 2 but Kekula says wind is in the forecast.

The Evacuation Alert remains in place.

60 ground crew and seven helicopters are working on the fire.
