CUPE labour impasse in Castlegar

While there’s no date set for labour action public sector workers in Castlegar are making signals they’re considering a strike.

Cupe local 2262 has held strike training following the break down of mediated contract talks with city management last month.

President Leford Lafayette says the big issue is job security and the fact that unionized employees are losing work.

But city manager John Malcolm says they’e had an arrangement for decades where exempt staff work with union employees on projects.

The city’s final offer includes a 5.75% over 4 years – retroactive to 2013.
