Teck makes initial response to RDCK lawsuit

Teck Resources is not offering an interview following news that the RDCK is suing them for pollution issues around a tailings pond in Salmo.

But in a written statement the company says – in part- that it “…has a long history of working collaboratively with communities.”

It goes on to say “…it’s important to note the property in question was bought by the RDCK in 1998.”

The RDCK wants Teck to pay for future remediation of the pond because tests show it has been leaching contaminants for years. Teck owned the site up to 1981.

The company says it will review the statement of claim from the regional district and intends to respond in due course.
