Evacuation Alert in Slocan Valley

The RDCK has issued the following alert because of wildfire.

Residents of Slocan Park and Crescent Valley in the vicinity of a wildfire burning on the east side of the valley are being put on evacuation alert.

“The RDCK and the Southeast Fire Centre are monitoring the status of this fire very closely and we want residents to be prepared in case the situation worsens,” said Terry Swan, the RDCK’s regional fire chief. “Currently the winds have abated and the Southeast Fire Centre will be attacking the fire with full force in the early morning. Weather permitting they expect to be successful.”

Residents with livestock are asked to move their animals to a safe location. They are also advised to pack some belongings in case of evacuation.

“The safety of our residents is our first concern,” said Swan.

The fire broke out Saturday during a lightning storm.
