Castlegar’s mayor is hopeful June’s referendum on upgrades to the rec complex will be successful.
Lawrence Chernoff says improving the facility would be great for the community.
The referendum must pass in Area I, Area J and Castlegar to move ahead.
Chernoff has concerns that the project will get shot down if Area I votes against it.
Respondents from Area I voted against the upgrades in a recent survey with 49 per cent saying they’re against it.
The proposed project includes adding a second sheet of ice, expansions of the aquatic and fitness centers and the creation of a social hub.
