The Ministry of Transportation provided Castlegar City Council with a detailed presentation about how they carry out winter maintenance on our highways.
District program engineer Ryan Oakley says winter weather brings challenges, especially in the West Kootenay.
The ministry says the main contributing factor to collisions during the winter is driver inattention.
They add our local highways contractors are meeting their obligations as specified but specifications could be updated when their contracts are up for renewal later this year.
They say our highways are regularly audited, including Highway 22.
