Johnson’s Landing residents at the north end of Kootenay Lake are being told the evacuation order for their area is to be lifted.
Kate O’Keefe lives in a property that is not in the hazard zone.
She says Regional District Officials informed them the order – which has been in place for the two years since the deadly slide – will likely be lifted Thursday.
The hazard zone is still dangerous and experts figure another major slide could happen again.
O’Keefe says residents are happy to hear the province will pay for some sort of ground monitoring system and will retain a protective berm built around Gar Creek.
But frustration remains among those homeowners who received no provincial disaster compensation because they were not their primary homes.
