It was an eventful New Years Day at Teck Trail Operations.
Company spokeswoman Catherine Adair says an investigation is underway to determine why a plume of smoke formed over the smelter Monday.
The excess smoke was only visible for a short period of time.
The incident was immediately reported to regulatory authorities.
It happened around 2::30 pm.
