BC midwives call for government investment

BC’s midwives want government to listen to their message that small investments now can save big money in the long run.
With contracts talks going nowhere they’ve decided not to enter a new contract in 90 days.
They say three million dollars a year for the next five years could save 60-million.
Here’s Nelson-based midwife Ilene Bell.
They’re asking for a 3% wage increase, but most funds would go into increasing their numbers.
They say the profession reduces the need for Cesarean births and other services that reduce hospital stay time.
They insist they will not stop serving patients.
