Columbia Avenue project moving to tender with increased budget

The first phase of upgrades planned for Columbia Avenue in Castlegar are going to tender.

But there will be a significant increase to the orignial budget which was estimated at $4.8 million.

Chief administrator Chris Barlow says this is due to the city’s decision to fix all sewer infrastructure within the project’s range.

The sewer fund for the project increased from $150,000 dollars to just over $571,000.

One city councillor voted against moving the project to tender.

Bruno Tassone says he supports the project but not its budgeting process.

Additions to the project’s scope has pushed its budget to $7.1 million.
