Selkirk College ends aviation program

Selkirk College has decided to cancel one of its flagship offerings.

After many months of review they’re ending the two-year Professional Aviation Program.

VP of Education and Students Neil Coburn says it was costing over a million dollars a year to run but they had only three students enrol for first year this year.

Originally the Selkirk program was the only one of its kind in Canada but now there are five others just in BC.

The college had already suspended the program as it reviewed the financial situation including the $4 million needed in capital improvements.

Over $3 million has been spent on equipment over the last decade.
