Another reminder to keep garbage from wildlife

Another reminder of the need to keep human garbage secure and away from wildlife.
This from local Conservation Officer Jason Hawkes who had to destroy a black bear earlier this week that had swum over the lake before climbing out at the Prestige Dock in Nelson.
Hawkes says it’s a rare incident and this animal had no known companions …  But bears do swim to food sources…
Hawkes says the bear was shot because it was in a high pedestrian traffic area and had become habituated the last few months after getting into garbage on the North Shore.
