Funding quagmire for Arrow Lakes Hospital upgrades

The West Kootenay-Boundary Regional Hospital District isn’t willing to pay extra to speed up renovations at Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp.

Interior Health recently asked the board if they would be willing to fund 100% of the project’s $2.1 million price tag.

Board chair Aimee Watson says that won’t happen.

Interior Health says it was only a suggestion to get the project moving.

Normally the hospital district pays 40% of capital projects.

The hospital’s physical layout no longer meets current staff and patient safety requirements.
