Power outage, gas emergency trigger Teck sirens

Sirens were bellowing throughout Teck Trail yesterday.

Spokeswoman Carol Vanelli-Worosz says the sirens were triggered by crews running maintenance work at on of the smelter’s substations.

The power outage caused some water to overflow down the bank into the parking lot at memorial centre.

Crews were able to clean the area.

During all the commotion there was also a level 2 gas emergency at the smelter.

That was handled internally by Teck staff.
