The staircase connecting LeRoi Avenue to Lower Rossland will remain in place.
The city had looked into the possiblity of decommissioning the stairs but council has decided to keep them.
Councillor Andy Morel was among those in favour of leaving the stairs as they are.
 He says it would be much harder for residents to walk to the downtown without the stairs, especially in the winter.
