Councillor favours public education over more cans

Nelson needs better public education on avoiding bear – garbage conflicts rather than installing more bear-proof cans in some public areas.
This from Councillor Deb Kozak after Wildsafe BC recently called on the City to set a high-visibility example by putting three bear-proof cans at Lakeside.
Kozak says she didn’t think that area had a bear problem.
Kozak says illegal dumping of garbage into city trash cans and dumpsters is an issue.
She thinks Council would support spending money on additional bear-proof cans – but in places where they’re needed.
