Fisherman swims from boat to shore at Victoria Street Bridge

Three firefighters from trail helped a boater who experienced motor troubles near the Victoria Street Bridge Tuesday evening.

They responded just after 5:00 pm.

A recreational fisherman was trying to row their boat to shore but the current was too strong.

Eventually the boat collided with the bridge’s middle piling and was lodged there.

The lone occupant managed to swim to shore.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue reminds boaters to always wear a life jacket on the waters.
