As of Saturday, the Ootischenia fire department will be a first responder.
Chief George Hamm says that means they’ll attend medical calls in addition to fires and car accidents.
He expects it to make them considerably busier.
But Hamm says now that they’re up to 23 members they should be able to handle it.
They recently completed the training required to become a designated first responder.
