Category 2 fires prohibited as of Monday

The Southeast Fire Centre will prohibit Category 2 open fires next week.

This means the burning of stubble or grass of any size over any area.

Burning cages or air curtain burners are off limits.

So are the use of fireworks, sky lanterns or burning barrels.

Campfires smaller than a half-metre high by a half-metre wide are still okay as well as stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.

The ban takes effect Monday at noon.
