There has been yet another drowning in our region.
The BC Coroner’s Service confirms that 53 year old Morey “Joe” Lafreniere died after jumping from the Old Nursery rail bridge in Grand Forks Tuesday afternoon.
Acquaintances saw that the man was in distress in the water, but could not get to him before he was swept away by the current.
This bridge is one of many spots along the Kettle River where people jump or dive into the water in the summertime.
Local search and rescue performed the recovery in about 20 minutes and next of kin have been notified.
