Rossland seeks solution to bear activity

It would cost Rossland around $200,000 to provide all residents with bear-proof garbage cans, as Castlegar has done.

This from councillor Aaron Cosbey who’s looking into options to address human-bear conflict.

But that sort of financial outlay is big for a community like Rossland.

Cosbey says a far cheaper option is public education and management of attractants but that’s harder to get full buy-in.

Rossland has had a number of issues this spring including a dangerous episode when bears got into someone’s basement.
