Kalesnikoff Lumber tackles beetle infestation

Kalesnikoff lumber is falling trees southeast of Nelson infected by Douglas-fir bark beetles.

Woodlands manager Tyler Hodgkinson says they found the beetles last year while preparing wildlife treatments.

The trees will lie on the ground until August.

The company had to apply for an exemption from visual quality objectives to do the work.

But Hodgkinson says it shouldn’t be noticeable from the valley bottom.
