Selkirk College’s Silver King campus in Nelson’s Rosemont neighborhood has turned 50 and they’ll be rolling out various golden anniversary celebration events in the coming months.
The campus was formally opened in June 1964 as the BC Vocational School – featuring mechanics, welding and millwrighting for men. Beauty culture,secretarial and practical nursing were also offered for women.
In 1975 it was merged with Selkirk College.
Today the campus still offers courses in heavy mechanical,welding and millwrighting and nine others plus many community education classes.
Their 50th will be officially marked with an event in September.
