Garbage related bear conflicts down in Castlegar

It appears the new bear resistant garbage bins doled out to Castlegar residents are working as advertised.

This from Jenny Wallace with Wildsafe BC.

She says the number of human/bear conflicts caused by garbage was low in 2016.

She says most conflicts stemmed from unpicked fruit or compost.

Over 150 sightings in Castlegar were reported though not all incidents were conflicts.
