The Glade ferry was shut down for several hours Tuesday after the cable skipped the bull wheel.
The vessel was out of service from noon til 6:45.
The Ministry of Transportation apologised for any inconvenience.
A new cable ferry to be used for the run is under construction.
It will be larger than the existing ferry and able to carry more vehicles.
