What is the appetite for a conservation fund around Kootenay Lake?

Four rural areas – A,D,E and Kaslo will go to referendum in November where they’ll likely be asked if they would approve paying up to $15 a year for ten years for the special fund.

Area E Director Ramona Faust couldn’t predict if that will be a tough sell but says the environment is an issue for local residents.

Faust says she will not be a proponent of the idea but will ensure everyone gets the info they need before the vote.

The idea is to use the tax fund to leverage big money for habitat and ecosystem preservation.
