Meeting new sawmill safety goals

How much will it cost sawmills in the region to meet new safety goals being rolled out by the province and Foresty Industry?

The two sides have unveiled an aggressive plan after meeting in Vancouver last week to focus on combustible dust and sawmill safety.

President of the Interior Lumber Manufacturer’ Association Jim Hackett says it could be they’ll have to pay to install any equipment upgrades such as improved ventillation.

The plan includes a number of key components such as a team of expert to help mills comply, a Dust Mitigation and Control Audit protocol and WorkSafe BC contacting the 61 sites that have issues to set expectations.
