Nelson group to stage second opera

The Queen City is getting set to mount its second operatic world premiere – but this time with a slight twist.

Just three years after the very successful, KHAOS, the Amy Ferguson Institute has announced it has yet another work by a Nelson-based composer.

Producer Marty Horswill says they were won over by Doug Jamieson’s proposal.

Jamieson’s story is titled Jorinda and is based on a Brothers Grimm fairy tale he used to read to his children.

Jamieson – a native of Ontario – has been awarded eight Ontario Arts Council commissions, two Canada council commissions and has scored music for nine films and videos.

The opera will be ready late next year.
