Castlegar city council is expected to endorse a pilot project tonight which would allow backyard chickens in some homes.
Up to seven homes would take part and the 18 month project would begin in March.
There would be a maximum of five hens allowed per eligible household.
No roosters are permitted and hen coops will not be visible from the street.
