Kootenay unemployment hits 9.2%

The Kootenay unemployment rate was up significantly last month compared to the same time last year.

It stood at 9.2 per cent in October compared to 6.1 per cent in October 2015.

That’s the second highest rate in the province after the northeast.

The labour force shrank slightly over 2015.

Just over 66,000 people were working and 6,700 were looking for work.

At the same time last year 72,000 were working and 4,700 were looking.

The BC jobless rate was 5.8 per cent down from 6.2 per cent last year.

The national rate was unchanged at 6.8 per cent.
