There are potentially scores of well-paying jobs in our region’s logging industry that will need to be filled as local forestry contractors seek new blood.
With growth now happening again in the sector, Selkirk College brought together several contractors recently.
Manager of Community Education and Workplace Training Gregg Neelin says the college can play a role in creating laddered training programs.
Neelin says years of slowdown saw many potential employees seek work elsewhere.
That has left a skills gap in young people coming through but now doors are opening again in many of the specialized logging areas.
