Local doctors trying to fill looming shortages

Local doctors are part of the effort to fill the looming shortages in their numbers.
The division of family practice for Kootenay Boundary has hired  a recruitment expert to promote this area to young doctors – and to work with existing provincial and Interior Health initiatives to get them here.
Executive Director Andrew Earnshaw says doctors are part of that ageing baby boomer generation and there’s a double-whammy scenario.
But the group says we have an attractive part of the world to offer recruits and they are investing resources into promoting the Kootenay Boundary online and with booths at conferences for example.
We could see a need for up to 30 new doctors in Trail and Nelson alone in the next 5 to 10 years.
