Slocan Valley bear cub dies in shelter

One of three orphaned bear cubs rescued east of New Denver last month has died.

The cubs were taken to the Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter near Smithers after their mother was killed.

Angelika Langen says they were doing well until mid-October when two suddenly became ill.

The third cub showed no sign of illness.

Langen says they’re still not sure what the cause was.

The cubs will be returned to the Slocan Valley and released into the wild in June.
