Local hero speaks about dramatic river rescue

The man who saved the life of a fisherman on Kootenay River has been speaking about the adventure.
South Slocan’s Chris O’Gorman sprung into action Tuesday when he heard the calls from the 85 year old man whose boat had overturned.
Fortunately he keeps a canoe nearby – although the paddle and life-jacket stay at home.
He told the man – who was wearing a life jacket – to grab a rope behind his canoe then battled the fast – flowing river to the other, closer side.
It didn’t end there – O’Gorman wrung the man’s clothes out then put him back in the canoe for a return trip over the river with that stick of a paddle.
